I wanted to paint one of the beautiful landscapes in the Ruby Valley of SW Montana. The scene I chose is on a 4th generation Montana ranch I have ridden on many times. The pasture in the foreground happens to be the home of an old 4-legged friend of mine. His name is Murphy. A 28 year old gray gelding that has lost his sight and hearing. The good news is, he knows every blade of grass, every fence post and gate in his pasture so I thought it only fitting that I included old Murphy in his favorite spot all shaded up “Napping Among the Willows”.
