“As I finished up a session on a big bay gelding, I rode him up the lane away from the barn and corrals. He moved right out and didn’t so much as flick an ear back toward his herd mates. A sage old cowboy told me years ago to never end a ride on any horse, colt or otherwise, near their buddies if he or showed any signs of being herd bound or barn sour. It was on of those tidbits I grabbed on to and I am mighty glad I did. It is always a perfect way to end the day as the shadows lengthen.”
